Textual Concordance

The project that started it all... The textual concordance was an attempt to index every word in the Bible and create a hyperlink to its occurrence in the text of the Bible. Modeled after the "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible", the resulting concordance was over 25 MB in size. Back in 1995, that was a lot of "internet space" to host. It was not feasible to put that amount of data on a personal web site. Moving into the 21st century, I am finally able to make my original work available. I hope you enjoy it.

Web Chapel's Exhaustive Concordance (KJV)

Moving forward, I decided to leveraged the strength of the internet, that is the ability to search documents, to provide a quick method of searching and dynamically generating concordance information. Below are several tools to help you find a passage in the The Holy Bible.

Enter the word(s) you are searching for in the text box.

Select the book(s) to look in.

Press "Search" to find all the verses containing the word(s).

The following words of frequent occurrence are not searchable, except as part of a phrase.

The Bible Concordance will not search the entire Bible in one search. Be sure to select the book, or group of books, that you want to begin searching in. To search the entire Bible, you must search through all seven groups of books. If you know the exact book in which the word(s) occur, you may limit your search to that book for faster results.

Searching for words using the 'and' and 'or' buttons:

If you are searching for two words, and you have selected 'and', a verse will be returned if both words occur in the same verse. If you have selected 'or', a verse will be returned if either of the words occurs in the verse. Use 'and' to narrow your search and reduce the number of matched verses (e.g. 'ark' and 'covenant'). Use 'or' if you are not sure of the spelling or usage of a word (e.g. 'marry' or 'marriage').

If more than one word is typed in a search-word box, they are treated as a phrase, not as individual words to 'and' or 'or'. The phrase must match exactly as you typed it, except for case sensitivity.

Other search options:

You can specify the maximum number of verses to be returned. A smaller number can prevent long transmissions of search results.

Case sensitivity can be turned 'on' to limit the number of matches on a word that occurs in both upper-case and lower-case variations (e.g. 'Lord', with case sensitivity, prevents matching on 'LORD').

Whole-word matching can be turned 'on' to prevent matching on portions of larger words (e.g. 'joy', with whole-word matching, prevents matching on 'enjoy').
